Why listing data can look different on directories
Discover the factors that cause discrepancies in listing data across different directories and how to ensure consistency.

Your location data can look slightly different on each directory, even when Uberall sends exactly the same information everywhere. This article explains the two most common reasons:
- Addresses are formatted by each directory's own map data, so they don't always match your Uberall address 1:1.
- Directories decide what to display. Uberall may send a field that a directory stores but doesn't show (yet).
In most cases neither is an error, and no action is needed.
Why your address may not match 1:1 on every directory
Each directory builds its map on its own map data. Some maintain their own maps, others license data from map providers such as TomTom, HERE or OpenStreetMap. Each source has its own rules for how an address is written, so the same place can be displayed in several valid ways.
On top of that, directories may adjust the address they receive. Google, for example, states that it "determines how best to display your business address based on your business information and information from other sources" (Google Business Profile guidelines).
Before publishing, Uberall also checks every address against a mapping service and standardises it, so directories receive a consistent, verifiable address. Where the only difference is an abbreviation in the street name (for example "St" vs "Street"), we keep the version you entered.
Common differences you may see
The map pin can differ too
The pin position can also vary slightly between directories. One map may place it on the building entrance, another on the street in front or in the centre of the building. Small differences of a few metres are normal and don't affect how customers find you.
When a difference is a real problem
A formatting difference is fine as long as the address still leads to the right place. Contact Support if a directory shows:
- a different house number
- a different street, or the opposite direction (for example North instead of South)
- a pin that is clearly in the wrong place, such as across a road or in a different building
Why some information isn't visible on a directory
Uberall sends every field a directory accepts, but each directory decides what it displays. If you can't see a field on a listing, it usually means the directory stored it without showing it, not that it wasn't sent.
Directories may still use this information even when it's not visible, for example to:
- rank and match your location in search results
- answer questions in voice assistants or in-car systems
- check that your listing is accurate and belongs to a real business
- pass data on to the apps and maps they supply
Uberall doesn't control how each directory uses the data. Apple, for example, notes that place cards have "various and optional areas that display content based on data provided by the Apple ecosystem and related partners" (Apple Business guide).
Directories change their display over time
Directories regularly add new features to their apps and websites. Because Uberall already sends the data, your listing is ready as soon as a directory starts showing a field. You don't have to do anything when that happens.
Common examples
Directories without a public listing page
Some partners don't have a listing page you can open at all:
- Voice assistants, such as Alexa, use your data to answer questions like “When does the store close?”
- Map data providers, such as TomTom, HERE and Overture Maps, collect place data and supply it to other apps, maps and in-car navigation systems. What appears depends on each product that uses their data. Overture, for example, describes its places data as covering "tens of millions of point representations of real-world entities" for use in other map applications (Overture Maps docs).
For these partners, a field that you can't see yourself has still been delivered.
What you can do
- Check your data in Uberall first. Make sure the address, pin and other fields in your location profile are correct. Uberall is your source of truth, and any change you make there is re-checked and sent to all connected directories.
- Allow time for updates. Directories process updates at different speeds, so a change can appear on one directory before another.
- Compare meaning, not formatting. If the address leads to the same place, a different spelling or abbreviation is expected.
- Contact Support for real errors. Reach out if a directory shows a wrong house number or street, the opposite direction, a pin in the wrong place, or information that contradicts what you entered (for example, different opening hours). Include the location, the directory, and a link or screenshot of the listing.
FAQ
Why does the address on a directory look different from what I entered? The directory formats addresses according to its own map data, and Uberall standardises addresses before publishing. As long as it points to the same place, this is expected.
Can I force a directory to show my address exactly as I typed it? No. Each directory decides how to format and display addresses. Uberall keeps your spelling where it can, for example, for street name abbreviations.
A directory shows a different postal code or city. Is that wrong? Not necessarily. Map data may assign your location to a neighbouring postal code, district or municipality. Contact Support if you're sure the postal code or city is incorrect.
I added special opening hours, but a directory doesn't show them. Were they sent? If the directory accepts special hours, they were sent. Some directories store them without displaying them, or don't support them at all.
Will hidden information appear later? It may. When a directory starts displaying a field, the information we already sent can appear without any action from you.
Why can't I find my listing on some partners, like voice assistants or map data providers? These partners don't have a public listing page. They use your data in their own products or pass it on to other apps and maps.
