Competitive Intelligence Grid Map: How to Analyze Local Search Performance by Location
Table of Contents
Overview
The Competitive Intelligence (Comp Intel) Grid Map helps you understand how each of your business locations performs in local Google search results — in the exact area where customers search.
Instead of showing performance at a brand-wide level, the Grid Map focuses on individual locations, revealing:
- How well each location ranks for important local keywords
- Which competitors appear nearby
- Where visibility is strong — and where it drops off
This gives you a realistic view of local search performance and helps you take action where it matters most.
What Problem Does This Solve?
Local search rankings are location-specific. A store that ranks well downtown may perform poorly just a few miles away.
Without a location-level view, it’s hard to:
- Trust brand-level averages
- Know which locations need attention
- Understand why competitors outrank you locally
The Grid Map fixes this by showing ranking coverage, competitors, and keyword performance for each location in its real local market.
Who Is This For?
The Grid Map is designed for teams that manage multiple locations, including:
- Marketing managers analyzing local visibility gaps
- Regional or franchise leads benchmarking against nearby competitors
- SEO and digital analysts tracking keyword performance per location
What You’ll See in the Grid Map

How to Get Started
Step 1: Open the Comp Intel Grid Map
Navigate to Analytics → Competitive Intelligence → Grid Map.
If this is your first time:
You’ll see a short onboarding walkthrough explaining how the feature works.
Once completed, you won’t see it again.

Step 2: Set Up Keywords for a Location
Before reports can run, each location needs keywords to track.
You’ll be prompted to:
Select a location
Choose up to 5 keywords to track
These come from the keywords already assigned to that location
Or you can skip setup and use the system’s default keywords
Once saved:
Keywords are stored per location
Reports will run automatically on a monthly basis
If a location has no keywords available, you’ll be guided to set them up first.
