    Overview

The Competitive Intelligence (Comp Intel) Grid Map helps you understand how each of your business locations performs in local Google search results — in the exact area where customers search.

Instead of showing performance at a brand-wide level, the Grid Map focuses on individual locations, revealing:

    • How well each location ranks for important local keywords
    • Which competitors appear nearby
    • Where visibility is strong — and where it drops off

This gives you a realistic view of local search performance and helps you take action where it matters most.

    What Problem Does This Solve?

Local search rankings are location-specific. A store that ranks well downtown may perform poorly just a few miles away.

    Without a location-level view, it’s hard to:

    • Trust brand-level averages
    • Know which locations need attention
    • Understand why competitors outrank you locally

The Grid Map fixes this by showing ranking coverage, competitors, and keyword performance for each location in its real local market.

    Who Is This For?

The Grid Map is designed for teams that manage multiple locations, including:

    • Marketing managers analyzing local visibility gaps
    • Regional or franchise leads benchmarking against nearby competitors
    • SEO and digital analysts tracking keyword performance per location

What You’ll See in the Grid Map

For a selected location, the Grid Map shows:

    Map View

A grid overlaid on the local area around the location

Pins representing your business and nearby competitors

Color-coded rankings to show visibility strength

Hover or click on pins to see business details

    Competitor Table

A detailed table below the map showing nearby competitors, including:

    • Business name
    • Average local rank
    • Review count and rating
    • Domain authority and backlinks
    • Business categories
    • Distance from your location

    Keyword Selector

    How to Get Started

Step 1: Open the Comp Intel Grid Map

Navigate to Analytics → Competitive Intelligence → Grid Map.

If this is your first time:

You’ll see a short onboarding walkthrough explaining how the feature works.

Once completed, you won’t see it again.

Step 2: Set Up Keywords for a Location

Before reports can run, each location needs keywords to track.

    You’ll be prompted to:

    Select a location

Choose up to 5 keywords to track

These come from the keywords already assigned to that location

Or you can skip setup and use the system’s default keywords

    Once saved:

    Keywords are stored per location

Reports will run automatically on a monthly basis

If a location has no keywords available, you’ll be guided to set them up first.

Step 3: Wait for the Report to Generate

    After setup:

The report may take time to generate

You’ll see a waiting screen while data is being prepared

Once ready, the Grid Map loads automatically.

    Using the Grid Map

    Select a Location

Use the location dropdown to switch between locations

Only one location is shown at a time

The map and table update instantly

    Switch Keywords

Use the keyword dropdown inside the report

See how rankings and competitors change per keyword

    Explore Competitors

Click a competitor in the table to highlight them on the map

Click pins on the map to see additional business details

Review competitor strengths like reviews or authority

    Review Historical Data

Use the date selector to view older reports

    Compare performance over time

    Editing Keywords Later

    You can update tracked keywords:

    Once per month per location

Through the “Edit Keywords” option in the location view

    Changes:

    Do not rerun past reports

Apply to the next scheduled report

Show a “Last updated” date so changes are clear

    Common States You Might See

Loading indicators while data is fetched

Waiting screen if a report hasn’t finished generating

Error messages if data is temporarily unavailable, with a retry option

No results messages if a location or keyword doesn’t exist

These are normal and help explain what’s happening at each step.

    Key Things to Know

    Rankings are location-specific, not brand-wide

Data is sourced from trusted local search providers

Reports update on a regular schedule

Performance is optimized to load quickly and securely

    Why This Matters

The Comp Intel Grid Map helps you:

    • Identify weak visibility zones around specific locations
    • Understand why competitors outrank you locally
    • Prioritize SEO and optimization efforts with confidence
    • Measure the real impact of local marketing work

If you manage multiple locations, this is the clearest way to see what’s actually happening on the ground.
