Switching from Google Maps to Mapbox

Last updated on August 28th, 2024

We are excited to announce that we are transitioning from Google Maps to Mapbox for our Locator+Pages product. This represents a major enhancement to the services we offer. By moving to Mapbox, we are unlocking new possibilities for customization, improving overall performance, providing a better user experience and enhancing privacy for end customers.

Our goal is to provide a more powerful, flexible, and user-friendly mapping experience. We understand you might have questions about this change, so we’ve compiled a comprehensive FAQ to address any concerns.

Mapbox benefits:

Mapbox offers several advantages that will enhance your experience with our locator+pages product:

  • User Experience: Mapbox is optimized for fast load times, smooth performance and high-quality maps ensuring an optimal user experience.
  • Customisation: Mapbox allows extensive customization options, enabling businesses to tailor the map's appearance and features to match their branding.
  • Privacy: Mapbox does not set cookies on website visitors' browsers.

What changes should I expect with the switch to Mapbox?

You might notice slight differences in the map appearance that have no impact on functionality or user experience.

Will there be any downtime during the transition?

We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition without downtime or disruption.

Do I need to update any settings or configurations?

Your settings and configurations will be carried over automatically. You will not need to make any changes on your Locator+Pages.

Does this have any data protection and privacy implications?

Mapbox applies the principle of data minimization to product development and operations in an effort to collect only limited data from the outset. Mapbox operates a number of technical and organization measures regarding the limited personal dataset that they process:

  • Cookies: Mapbox does not require cookies for its mapping services.
  • Personal Data: Mapbox processes and stores IP addresses of website visitors for a period of 30 days for security and billing purposes.
  • EU-US data transfers: Mapbox Inc is registered under the EU/US Data Privacy Framework, meaning that the adequacy decision issued by the European Commission for the United States of America is applicable to transfers of personal data to Mapbox. Neither Google Maps or Mapbox are a processor (within the meaning of GDPR) of Uberall and none of the above data is transferred or accessible to us.

Uberall itself, as a result of the use of Locator, does process any query input and the IP address of users of Locator (as described under https://uberall.com/en-us/dpa-customer-datatypes), whereas the latter is deleted after 7 days (unless it is subject of security event).

We suggest reviewing your current information provided to individuals using the environment in which Locator+Pages is integrated (e.g. privacy policies or cookie consents and making adjustments as necessary). If you have specific questions about your setup, our support team is here to assist you.

What support will be available during the transition?

Our dedicated support team will be available to assist you throughout the transition.
