How to Import Locations from Google Business Profile
Table of Contents
Overview
Google Location Import lets you connect your Google Business Profile account and bring your locations straight into Uberall — no manual data entry required. You can import a single location or thousands at once, run the import as many times as you need, and optionally push your data live to directories immediately after importing.
The import runs as a background job. Once you click Import, you can navigate away and come back later to check progress — you don't need to stay on the page.
Who can use this
| Role | Access |
|---|---|
| Admin | Yes |
| Account Manager | Yes |
| Business Manager | Yes |
| Location Manager | No — cannot create locations |
Things that can also affect access:
- If Location Approval Flow is turned on for the account and you're not an Approver, the Google import option is hidden. Contact your account admin to check.
- If field-level restrictions are set up on the account, the import may also be hidden.
Where to find it
Go to Locations → Import → Google. If you don't have access, you'll be redirected to the file import tab instead.
How to run a Google import
The import is a five-step wizard starting with a Google sign-in.
- Connect your Google account — Click Connect & Import (first time) or New Google Import (returning). You'll be redirected to Google to sign in. Once signed in, Google returns you to Uberall automatically and your account email is shown to confirm the connection.
- Select location groups — Choose which Google Business Profile accounts or location groups to import from. If you only have one group, it's pre-selected. You must choose at least one group to continue.
- Select locations — Pick the individual locations you want to import. Each one shows its name, address, and whether it's already in Uberall. You can search, select all, or deselect already-imported locations. At least one location must be selected.
-
Business settings — Choose where your imported locations should go:
- Existing business — add them to a business already in Uberall
- New business — all into one — create one new business for all selected locations
- New business — one per group — create a separate new business for each location group
-
Review & Import — Check your selections, then choose:
- Import — creates the locations in Uberall only
- Import & Sync — creates the locations and immediately pushes their data live to Google and other connected directories
| ⚠️ If the import fails straight away after clicking Import: check the business settings in Step 4 — a required field was likely missing when setting up a new business. Go back, fill in all required fields, and try again. |
Once the import starts, check the history table for progress. Large batches can take several minutes — this is normal. When it finishes you'll see one of two results:
- Completed — all your locations are in Uberall. If any are missing, download the error report from the history table to see which ones and why.
- Failed — something went wrong. Retry from the history table (you can retry up to 3 times). Locations that imported successfully are kept — only the failed ones are re-attempted. If all 3 retries fail, start a new import from scratch and deselect the locations that already came through.
FAQ
Why can't I see the Google import option?
The most common reason is your role — Location Managers can't create locations and won't see the import option. Contact your account admin to upgrade your role to Business Manager, Account Manager, or Admin. If your role is fine, check whether Location Approval Flow is turned on for the account — this hides the import for anyone who isn't an Approver.
I connected my Google account but the import failed straight away — what happened?
Check the business settings first — a required field was likely missing when setting up a new business. Go back to Step 4, fill in all required fields, and try again. If the settings look correct, the connected Google account may have no Business Profile locations — try connecting a different Google account.
The import has been "In Progress" for a long time — what should I do?
Large imports can take several minutes — this is normal. If it's been more than 7 minutes with no change, the system will mark it as Failed automatically so you can retry from the history table. There's no way to cancel an import once it's running.
Some of my locations failed to import — what do I do?
Download the error report from the history table — it lists each location that couldn't be imported and why. The most common reason is a missing Primary Category on the Google location. Add the Primary Category in Google Business Profile, then retry the import. Error reports are available for 7 days after the import ran.
Will I get duplicates if I import the same locations again?
No. Uberall detects locations already in the system before you start and filters them out automatically — no duplicates are created. You'll see them marked as "already imported" in the selection screen and can deselect them.
What's the difference between "Import" and "Import & Sync"?
Import creates your locations in Uberall but doesn't immediately push data to directories. Import & Sync does the same, then immediately sends your location data live to Google and other connected directories. Choose Import & Sync if you want your listings to go live as quickly as possible.
Can a Business Manager use the file import instead?
No — Business Managers can only use the Google import. The file (CSV) import is available to Admins and Account Managers only. If you need to import via file, contact your account admin to upgrade your role.
