This article gives an overview of Content Collections. More detailed information will be linked in each section.
What is a Content Collection?
A Content Collection is a set of content items that provide consumers with more information about a business. Collections are often standard across many locations, like a restaurant menu or a list of product offerings.
A single collection can be associated with multiple locations, making it easier to manage this information across many locations since updates only need to occur in one place instead of on each individual location.
Most importantly, the information in a Content Collection enhances directory listings and local profiles, often leading to higher rankings for a greater number of keywords.
What are Content Items?
A Content Item is a single object within a collection, such as a specific dish or drink on a menu or a product sold by a business. Since different item types require different data, there are multiple Content Item types available.

How to work with Content Collections?
Platform
Content Collections can be found in two places within the platform:
- Left-hand navigation bar - for users managing more than one location
- Location level top navigation bar - available to all users regardless of the number of locations they manage.

User Permissions
All users have access to Content Collections, though user permissions can be set to view only.
Users with edit permission will have the ability to:
- Create content collections.
- Edit content collections that are only associated with locations the user manages.
- Delete content collections that are only associated with locations the user manages.
- Associate or disassociate locations from collections the user manages.
Users with edit permission cannot:
- Create, edit, or delete collections that are also assigned to locations they do not manage.
- Associate or disassociate locations from collections that are also assigned to locations they do not manage.
Import feature
Content Collection information can be updated and exported via the location spreadsheet import/export.
API
Content Collections can be updated via the API. Specifics can be found in the existing Uberall API documentation.
Where are Content Collections Displayed?
Collection Type | Directories | Local Pages |
---|---|---|
Menu | Yes | Yes |
People | No | Yes |
Products | No | Yes |
Custom | No | Yes |
Directories
Menu Collections are currently supported by some directories, including Google. The other collection types are not currently accepted by the directories, but are important for clients with local pages.
When directories do begin accepting the other collection types via API, we will send this information as well.
Local Pages
All Content Collections can be added to Local Pages. The addition of Content Collections provides consumers with decision-making information about the business location. Collections also supply search engines with valuable keywords that help the webpage appear in organic searches.
Managing Data with Content Collections
Once an item is created, it can be added to a new or existing Content Collection.
An item can be added to more than one Content Collection of the same type. When an item appears in multiple collections, it only needs to be created once, assuming all of the item's information is consistent across the Collections.
If a Content Collection is modified, its information will be immediately updated on all locations to which it is associated.
If a Content Collection is deleted, it will immediately be deleted from all locations to which it has been associated.
Each location can only have one of each collection type, so no location can have two menus or two lists of products.
View Only
If a collection is labeled "View Only," then the user cannot update or delete the collection. Collections may be in "View Only" for two reasons:
- The user does not have permission to create, edit, or delete collections.
- The collection is associated with some locations the user does not manage.
Admins have the ability to change and delete all Content Collections.
