Fixing common errors when bulk importing location data

Last updated on March 14th, 2022

If you are having issues when importing locations, you may have some formatting flaws. If that is the case, you will get error messages after your import, indicating what exactly went wrong.

Here are some of the most common issues and how to solve them:

Wrong Format

You will be informed about:

  •  which field has been incorrectly filled, for example, 'opening hours'
  • what is the exact type of error and the value that has been submitted in the file. In this case, you will have to edit the information directly on the file and import it again.

Normalization Error

Most of our directories expect GeoCoordinates in order to create a listing. Normalisation is how we call the process of verifying a location's address and retrieving its GeoCoordinates.

A normalization error occurs when we are unable to find a given address on the map, therefore the location cannot be pinned. As a result, the affected location will have to be manually corrected.

In order to do that, click on the location specified in the error message. This will lead you to a map where you will be able to pin down the exact address. After saving this action, the address will be normalized.

Missing Business ID

If you have more than one account and are importing locations for different ones, you will have to specify it in the file. If some locations have a Business ID and other do not have one or have one that is incorrect, you will receive an error message at the matching stage of the import as shown below:
